Paul Read raises the bar-mitzvar
Broadstone Mill Open Studios Resident Photographer Paul Read has a new and exciting Bat & Bar Mitzvah photography service now up and running at www.thebarmitzvah.co.uk! The service is aimed at higher-end customers who are looking for a first-class photography package to record their son or daughter's Bat/Bar Mitzvah celebration in the north-west.
TheBarmitzvah.co.uk is a new and exciting photography service for Bat & Bar Mitzvahs, based in Manchester and operating throughout the north-west and London.
The principal photographer of TheBarmitzvah is the Manchester-based Guardian Award winning photographer Paul Read. Graduating from the University of Wales with a First Class BA Honours Degree in Photojournalism in 2006, Paul won the Guardian Student Photographer of the Year Award 2006 and went on to produce work for clients including The Guardian.
Paul is a documentary photographer and has exhibited his reportage work in prestigious art galleries such as the Getty Images Gallery in London and Varennes Fine Art Gallery in Notting Hill. He was nominated for the Ian Parry 2006 Photojournalism Awards and received numerous nominations for the Black & White Spider Awards 2008.
Martin Barnes, curator of the Photographs Department at the Victoria and Albert Museum noted in a review of "Under the Thar Desert" (Rajasthan, 2006) that “the anxiety arising from Paul Read’s stretching of the forms recalls Giacometti’s sculptures which play on shades, drawings and light”. Paul's work has been compared to the photography of Henri Cartier-Bresson and Werner Bischof in a review of the exhibition shown in Varennes Fine Arts Gallery.
Paul has received commissions and carried out projects in many countries including India, New Zealand, Austria, the Shetland Islands, France and Finland to name a few. Besides photographing and exhibiting documentary work Paul also photographs weddings and events; he is the photographer for Click Guess Who children's photography and is the principle photographer for TheBarmitzvah.co.uk.
